Therefore, we have completely rebuilt the foundation of search in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.” The new mechanism is based on a restructured Search Index architecture, which serves as an intelligent catalog for all content on the device.
The key enhancements include:
- Complete Re-indexing: The system will reprocess and organize not only new files but also all existing ones on the device.
- New Ranking System in Mail: The email client features a unique sorting algorithm that will instantly surface the emails you are looking for, regardless of their send date, including old tickets from contacts using Android devices.
Apple also announced a new dictation system powered by Apple Intelligence, collaborating with Google’s Gemini neural network. This feature is integrated directly into the standard keyboard and will function across all applications, from messaging to note-taking.
A notable aspect of this update is its ability to perform contextual speech cleanup. The AI operates like a professional editor, eliminating filler words and automatically formatting text. This includes:
- Removal of Filler Words: The system automatically cuts out unnecessary pauses from the final text.
- Automatic Formatting: The neural network places punctuation, corrects spelling errors, and capitalizes necessary letters based on the sentence’s context.

In the realm of photography, the Photos app received a powerful spatial cropping tool called Reframe, utilizing generative AI. This feature allows users to correct mistakes made during shooting, such as tilted horizons or unwanted objects in the frame.
Users can simply drag the image on the screen to adjust the viewing angle, as if they had taken a step left or right during the shot. The device automatically blurs the displaced areas in real-time and seamlessly fills in the gaps using neural networks, preserving the authenticity of the scene.
Additionally, iOS 27 introduces the Extend tool, which enables users to expand the boundaries of an image without losing important details.
