The United States has concluded a series of airstrikes targeting Iranian military facilities following the downing of an American Apache helicopter and a series of assaults on US forces and commercial shipping in the region. According to an anonymous US official, nearly 20 military sites were struck.
Late on June 9, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American fighter jets targeted Iranian air defense systems, ground control stations, and radar installations near the Strait of Hormuz. The US military characterized these actions as a “proportional response” to Iran’s provocations, executed under orders from President Donald Trump.
In retaliation, Iran launched several missiles and drones; however, the US official indicated that “almost all” of the projectiles were intercepted. There have been no reports of casualties among US personnel or damage to American facilities, although assessments of the Iranian strikes are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that on June 10, it carried out missile and drone attacks against a US military base in Jordan and other US-linked targets across the Persian Gulf in response to the US strikes on Iranian military sites. Iranian media reported that these attacks were directed at the Al-Azraq base in Jordan, as well as facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain.
On the evening of June 9, President Trump stated that Iran was responsible for the downing of the Apache helicopter the previous day and promised a “very powerful” response. This exchange of strikes marks one of the most significant escalations since the ceasefire agreement reached between Washington and Tehran in April.
