Ukrainian Drones Successfully Target Russian ‘Herber’ UAVs

Ukrainian interceptors, the P1-SUN drones, have successfully destroyed Russian ‘Herber’ drones for the first time. These drones were reportedly carrying FPV drones, a new modification that allows for deeper strikes into Ukrainian territory.

The operation involved two military units: the ‘Voron’ crew from the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade and the ‘Box’ team from the 302nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment. Within a single day, they managed to locate and eliminate five Russian UAVs. Footage from the interceptors shows the ‘Herbers’ with their distinctive X-shaped frames and the FPV devices mounted on top.

The defense technology company SkyFall has released video footage showcasing the interceptors in action.

The P1-SUN is a Ukrainian interceptor drone developed by SkyFall, designed to target ‘Shahed’ drones and other UAVs. Its specifications include a speed of up to 310 km/h, an operational altitude of up to 9,000 meters, and a range of up to 33 km from the launch point. Some variants are equipped with thermal imaging cameras and automated targeting systems, enhancing the operator’s ability to track and destroy targets accurately.

Historically, ‘Herber’ drones were primarily used as low-cost decoys, launched in large numbers to overwhelm Ukrainian air defense systems or for reconnaissance missions. However, in early 2026, Ukrainian Defense Ministry advisor Sergey Beskrestnov, known by the call sign ‘Flash’, announced a new role for the ‘Herber’ drones, which are now being utilized as aerial carriers for FPV drones. This modification effectively extends the operational range of FPV systems.

Ukrainian forces have achieved a significant milestone by destroying Russian 'Herber' drones using P1-SUN interceptors. This operation highlights the evolving tactics in drone warfare, particularly with the introduction of FPV drones.
