Ukrainian President Zelensky Discusses Diplomatic Coordination with UK PM Starmer

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on May 20, focusing on diplomatic efforts in response to the ongoing conflict with Russia. Zelensky expressed gratitude for the UK’s support and noted that both leaders aimed to enhance their diplomatic strategies regarding the war.

During the discussion, Zelensky emphasized the importance of meaningful diplomacy, stating, “We are trying to activate substantive diplomacy. We agreed on future contacts.” This indicates a commitment to ongoing dialogue between Ukraine and the UK as the situation evolves.

The UK Prime Minister’s office confirmed the conversation, highlighting Starmer’s unwavering commitment to undermining Russian military capabilities. According to a statement from Downing Street, Starmer reiterated the UK’s resolve to take all necessary actions to weaken President Putin’s military apparatus.

Starmer also assured that the UK would continue to apply pressure on Russia through sanctions. He outlined how the UK is intensifying measures against the Russian economy, including a new sanctions package announced recently. This package aims to reduce the presence of Russian oil in the market, thereby contributing to a weakening of Russia’s economic position.

Both leaders anticipate another meeting in the near future to further discuss these critical issues. Earlier that day, Zelensky expressed hopes that Kyiv would be able to address sanctions against Russia with London within the week. This follows the UK’s recent decision to permit the import of diesel and aviation fuel derived from Russian oil processed in third countries.

President Zelensky and PM Starmer discussed diplomatic strategies and sanctions against Russia, reaffirming their commitment to ongoing cooperation. Both leaders anticipate future meetings to address these critical issues.
