Ukrainian President Seeks Brazilian Mediation for Peace Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reached out to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, requesting his assistance in facilitating negotiations to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to reports, Zelensky is hoping that Lula could initiate contact with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to encourage their participation in peace discussions.

The Ukrainian leader aims for Lula to persuade Putin to engage directly in negotiations and ultimately agree to a meeting with Zelensky and other intermediaries.

Brazilian officials believe that this request arises from Ukraine’s difficulties in establishing dialogue channels with Moscow.

It is noteworthy that Ukraine made a similar appeal last year, which was acknowledged by Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, confirming that the message was relayed to the Kremlin, but it did not yield any significant outcomes.

Additionally, a recent survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology indicates that over 60% of Ukrainians support a cessation of hostilities along the current front lines, provided there are security guarantees from international partners.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has asked Brazilian President Lula to mediate peace talks with Russia, highlighting ongoing challenges in dialogue. A significant portion of the Ukrainian population supports a ceasefire under international security guarantees.
