The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, has confirmed his direct participation in special operations conducted on Russian territory. This revelation sheds light on the ongoing military strategies employed by Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Budanov, who previously served as the chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), detailed operations in the Belgorod region, particularly in the vicinity of Grayvoron. According to military sources, Budanov’s unit was among the first to engage in these incursions.
“Initially, it was Grayvoron. Kyrylo Oleksiyovych moved with the unit through the forests and fields,” recounted a military officer involved in the operation. The commander shared a notable moment from the mission, revealing that the group paused near a store and bus stop, where Budanov suggested they rest and emphasized the significance of their presence in that area.
“He said: ‘Let’s sit here because this is also our territory,'” the officer recalled.
Furthermore, Budanov reportedly left his signature and the date at the location as a mark of their presence.
Kyrylo Budanov’s military career has been marked by significant involvement in combat operations since the onset of Russian aggression in Ukraine in 2014. As a member of the Ukrainian intelligence special forces, he has participated in numerous classified operations, many of which remain undisclosed.
Notably, in 2016, Budanov led a raid in Crimea aimed at destroying helicopters at a base in Dzhankoy. During this operation, his group encountered Russian special forces, resulting in the elimination of several personnel, including a high-ranking officer.
