Ukrainian defense innovators have introduced the Drone Squad Fury, a multifunctional unmanned aerial vehicle designed to deploy mortar shells and engage in combat with a mounted machine gun. This new technology was showcased at the Eurosatory defense exhibition, according to a representative from OM Defense Systems.
The Drone Squad Fury is adaptable, allowing for various configurations. It can carry mortar munitions weighing up to 15 kilograms, or be equipped with a machine gun for direct fire. Additionally, the drone can be fitted with advanced communication systems, including a Starlink terminal.
A specific version of the drone, designed for Ukrainian special forces, has not yet demonstrated the effectiveness anticipated. The representative noted, “We delivered the drone to them for testing, but they eventually reverted to traditional methods of munitions deployment. Our goal was to showcase the versatility of what can be implemented on this platform.”
In related developments, Ukraine has also introduced a new generation of AI-powered interceptors. The SkyFall company has rolled out the P1-SUN Long drones, which can autonomously detect aerial targets from distances of up to 800 meters.
The AI systems in these drones have been trained using over 10,000 video recordings of real combat interceptions. Once an operator confirms a target, the system automatically locks on, pursues, and neutralizes the threat. The P1-SUN Long variant has already achieved multiple confirmed hits against Russian kamikaze drones, known as Shahed.
The unveiling of the Drone Squad Fury highlights Ukraine's advancements in drone technology, offering versatile combat capabilities. Alongside this, the introduction of AI-powered interceptors like the P1-SUN Long demonstrates a significant leap in aerial defense strategies.
