Ukraine Strengthens Defense Ties with Belgium and Spain Ahead of Key Meeting

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov held discussions with his Belgian and Spanish counterparts to outline collaborative priorities ahead of the upcoming Ramstein meeting.

Collaboration Focus Areas

Fedorov engaged in talks with Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken and Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles. The three officials synchronized their efforts on several key areas:

  • Enhancing air defense capabilities;

  • Developing drone capabilities;

  • Implementing the “Czech Initiative” to supply long-range artillery to the front lines.

Financial and Military Support

This year, Belgium has allocated 1 billion euros in defense assistance to Ukraine. The country has also confirmed plans to transfer additional F-16 fighter jets and provide spare parts for existing aircraft.

Spain is set to contribute 1 billion euros in support of Ukraine by 2026, with a focus on enhancing cooperation between defense industries through the European SAFE mechanism.

Ukraine proposed a list of manufacturers for collaboration with Spanish companies and offered to test Spanish drones in combat conditions.

Gratitude and Outcomes

The Ukrainian minister expressed gratitude to Belgium and Spain for their ongoing support. Through effective collaboration with these partners, Ukraine continues to hold off enemy advances, reclaim territories, protect its airspace, improve missile interception capabilities, and intensify economic strikes against Russia.
