Ukraine Establishes June 11 as Drone Forces Day

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially designated June 11 as Drone Forces Day, recognizing the significant role of unmanned aerial systems in the country’s defense efforts. This announcement was made public on June 10, following a decree signed by Zelensky.

The decree highlights the importance of drone forces in Ukraine’s ongoing struggle for freedom, independence, and territorial integrity. It states, “In light of the role of the Drone Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the fight for freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, I decree to establish the Day of Drone Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to be celebrated annually on June 11.” The decree takes effect immediately upon publication.

On June 5, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced the government’s proposal to establish this commemorative day. She emphasized that Ukraine is the first nation to create a dedicated branch of drone forces, which have effectively demonstrated how innovative technologies can counteract a nuclear power.

Svyrydenko stated, “This day honors those who gather intelligence, plan operations, and execute missions. It recognizes the individuals who operate drones and strike targets, ensuring unique operations with UAVs and reconnaissance systems both at the front lines and deep within enemy territory, targeting equipment, logistics, and command centers, as well as delivering long-range strikes over a thousand kilometers into enemy territory.”

In June of the previous year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced the formation of a unified drone force, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and adapting to the demands of modern warfare. This grouping was established to consolidate various components of drone operations.

Robert Brovdi, known by the call sign “Madyar,” was appointed to lead the Drone Forces of Ukraine following a presidential decree issued on June 3, 2025.

Recently, the drone forces reported that since their inception, they have successfully engaged 100,000 enemy personnel. This figure includes both irrecoverable and sanitary losses, with each engagement verified by relevant documentation and recorded in the military situational awareness system known as “Delta.”

Ukraine has officially established June 11 as Drone Forces Day to honor the contributions of unmanned aerial systems in its defense efforts. The decree reflects the strategic importance of drone operations in modern warfare and recognizes the achievements of the newly formed drone forces.
