U.S. President Donald Trump remarked on Ukraine’s performance in the ongoing conflict with Russia, emphasizing the nation’s resilience despite facing a significantly larger military force. His comments reflect a broader assessment of the situation on the ground.
Trump stated that, while Russia possesses a vast army, Ukrainian forces are managing to hold their ground effectively. He noted, “They are doing quite well. They are holding on,” highlighting the support Ukraine has received, particularly from the United States.
In a related context, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently indicated that a significant portion of the Russian population desires an end to the war, recognizing the challenges faced by their military in achieving victory.
Additionally, analyst Janis Klug noted a substantial increase in Russia’s military expenditures, which reached a record high in the first quarter of 2026. This figure, amounting to 5.91 trillion rubles (approximately $83.2 billion), represents a one-third increase compared to the previous year, underscoring the financial strain on the Kremlin as the conflict continues.
President Trump acknowledged Ukraine's effective resistance against Russia, despite the latter's military superiority. Concurrently, rising military costs for Russia indicate the ongoing strain of the conflict.
