Russian Military Strikes Gas Station in Dnipropetrovsk Region, Injuring Children

On May 3, Russian military forces targeted a gas station in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, impacting a bus carrying 40 children, according to local authorities. The incident occurred in the Krynychanska community, located over 40 kilometers west of Dnipro, the regional capital.

Fortunately, the children had exited the bus before the attack. They were promptly evacuated to safety. However, a 10-year-old boy sustained injuries and was hospitalized in moderate condition. Additionally, five adults were injured, including a 21-year-old pregnant woman. A 40-year-old woman is reported to be in serious condition, while the health status of the others is assessed as moderate.

Earlier that morning, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk region reported another attack in the Nikopol district, resulting in one injury.

Russian forces have been consistently targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various weapons, including drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launchers. These attacks have drawn condemnation from Ukrainian authorities and international organizations, which classify them as war crimes.

The strikes on essential services and healthcare facilities are seen as attempts to deprive civilians of basic necessities like electricity, heat, water, and medical assistance, raising concerns about potential genocidal actions.

Legal experts and human rights advocates argue that the ongoing conflict has led to numerous acts that could be classified as genocide, including public calls for the destruction of Ukrainians and systematic attacks on those with pro-Ukrainian views. The United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, adopted in 1948, obligates signatory nations to prevent and punish acts of genocide.

The Russian leadership, however, denies that its military is deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, despite evidence of widespread destruction to hospitals, schools, and essential services.

A recent attack by Russian forces in the Dnipropetrovsk region injured a child and several adults when a gas station was struck while a bus carrying children was nearby. This incident highlights ongoing concerns over targeted strikes against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
