Russian Forces Intensify Mine Warfare Near Chasiv Yar, Complicating Supply Routes for Ukrainian Troops

Recent developments in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine have seen Russian forces transforming roads near Chasiv Yar into heavily mined areas. This tactic is aimed at obstructing the supply lines of Ukrainian military units operating in the region.

According to Konstantin Melnikov, a spokesperson for the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Daniel, the situation has become increasingly perilous. He stated in an interview that the primary objective of the Russian forces is to complicate or entirely hinder logistical operations for Ukrainian defenders.

Melnikov elaborated on the methods employed by the occupying forces, which include:

  • Deploying drones, referred to as “waiters,” that are designed to detonate upon detecting military vehicles on the roads;
  • Dropping explosive devices from unmanned aerial vehicles;
  • Utilizing magnetic mines.

To counter these threats, Ukrainian soldiers conduct aerial reconnaissance of their routes before any movement. Melnikov explained, “Our troops are compelled to continuously monitor these paths, either by flying drones overhead or through demining operations. The presence of mines on the roads has become a frequent issue in this sector of the front line.”

When a drone is identified, Ukrainian forces attempt to neutralize it swiftly, ensuring that the device does not have a chance to react. This often involves using first-person view (FPV) drones for targeted strikes.

Russian forces are increasingly using mine warfare tactics near Chasiv Yar to disrupt Ukrainian supply routes. This strategy complicates logistical operations for Ukrainian troops, who are adapting by employing aerial reconnaissance and targeted drone strikes.
