Intense Fighting Continues Despite Temporary Ceasefire in Ukraine

Despite a declared three-day ceasefire, Ukrainian forces reported 147 combat engagements over the past day, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In its morning briefing, the military indicated that Russian forces deployed 7,704 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,021 shelling attacks on populated areas and Ukrainian military positions, including 12 strikes using multiple launch rocket systems.

The heaviest assaults were recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 28 attacks aimed at various settlements including Bilytske, Nikanorivka, and Novoluhanske.

In the Huliaipole sector, Russian troops launched 27 assaults near Novozaporizhia and other localities, while the Konstantynivka direction saw 11 attacks near Illinivka and Pleshchiyivka.

Less intense fighting was reported in several other regions, including the Northern Slobozhansky and Southern Slobozhansky areas, as well as Kupiansk and Lyman.

Notably, no assaults were recorded in the Orikhiv and Dnipro directions.

General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, noted that as of May 8, Russian military activity has intensified across nearly the entire front. He highlighted that the Pokrovsk direction remains particularly tense, with approximately 106,000 Russian troops concentrated there.

Additionally, analysts from the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) pointed out that Russian forces, which first breached the outskirts of Konstantynivka in late October 2025, have yet to make significant tactical advancements in the Konstantynivka-Druzhkivka area.

Ukrainian forces reported a surge in combat despite a temporary ceasefire, with significant Russian military activity particularly in the Pokrovsk direction. Analysts indicate that Russian troops have not made substantial progress in key tactical areas.
