Russian Drone Strike Claims Life of Ukrainian Police Officer in Kharkiv Region

A police officer was killed and four others injured when a Russian drone struck a police vehicle in the village of Chystovodivka, located in the Izium district of the Kharkiv region. The incident occurred during an operation to neutralize an unexploded drone that had previously failed to detonate.

On June 7, law enforcement personnel were responding to a report regarding a hazardous object—a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of unidentified type—when the drone targeted their service vehicle. The blast resulted in the death of a police explosives technician, while three other officers and one civilian sustained injuries.

Emergency response teams, including investigative units and regional management officials, quickly arrived at the scene. Medical assistance is being provided to all those affected by the attack.

Investigators are currently documenting the aftermath of the strike, and details of the incident have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 438, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to war crimes.

This incident reflects a broader pattern of Russian military tactics, which often involve “double strikes”—a method where an initial attack is followed by a secondary assault on the same location. A similar event occurred on June 2, when Russian forces first targeted a Naftogaz facility with drones and then launched a missile strike about an hour later.

A police officer was killed and four others injured in a drone strike while responding to an unexploded Russian UAV in Kharkiv. The attack highlights the ongoing risks faced by Ukrainian forces amid the conflict.
