Romania Confirms Drone Debris from Russian Attack on Ukraine

Authorities in Romania have reported finding debris from drones following a nighttime assault by Russian forces on Ukraine. The attack resulted in damage to a utility pole and an extension of a residential building in the Tulcea County region.

Romanian Ministry of Defense officials indicated that their radar systems detected incoming drones around 2:00 AM. In response, two Eurofighter Typhoon jets from the British Royal Air Force were scrambled from Fetesti airbase shortly thereafter.

Residents in Tulcea County received an air threat alert via the RO-ALERT system at 2:14 AM. The Typhoon aircraft established radar contact with the drones approximately 1.5 kilometers from Reni, which is located within Ukrainian territory, and were authorized to engage the targets.

Local residents in Galați reported an object falling at 2:31 AM. While there were no reported casualties, property damage was noted. Preliminary assessments indicated that an outbuilding at a local farm and a utility pole sustained minor damage.

Drone fragments were located in several areas, which have since been cordoned off by Romanian police and military personnel. The Romanian Ministry of Defense condemned Russia’s actions, labeling them as irresponsible and a new threat to regional security and stability in the Black Sea area.

“Such incidents demonstrate the Russian Federation’s disregard for international law and jeopardize not only the safety of Romanian citizens but also the collective security of NATO,” the ministry emphasized.

This incident follows a coordinated Russian strike on critical infrastructure in Ukraine on April 25, which involved the use of drones and missiles. Major targets included Dnipro, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa, and Kyiv regions.

In Dnipro, the attack resulted in injuries to over 20 individuals, including a nine-year-old boy, and claimed three lives, with rescue efforts ongoing for those potentially trapped under debris. A four-story residential building suffered partial destruction, alongside damage to industrial facilities, private homes, vehicles, and a store.

Additionally, multiple strikes were reported in the Kyiv and Shevchenko districts of Kharkiv, one of which impacted near a residential building. Transportation infrastructure was also affected, with a public transport stop destroyed and a gas pipeline damaged.

In the Saltivka and Nemishlyany districts, private homes were damaged, and fires broke out as a result of the attacks. A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was injured due to a drone strike in the Nemishlyany area, suffering acute stress reactions, though medical personnel provided the necessary care.

Further details regarding the aftermath of the nighttime assault on Ukraine can be found in additional reports.

Romania has confirmed the discovery of drone debris linked to a Russian attack on Ukraine, which caused property damage but no casualties. The Romanian Ministry of Defense condemned the actions as a threat to regional security, amidst ongoing assaults on Ukrainian infrastructure.
