Poland is set to establish a significant drone fleet, leveraging the combat experience gained by Ukraine in recent conflicts. This initiative was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a recent conference.
Tusk emphasized the importance of Poland’s readiness in light of ongoing global instability. “We understand how critical it is to respond swiftly to any provocations or acts of aggression,” he stated, outlining a clear objective for the nation.
The Prime Minister articulated his vision of constructing an “armada of drones,” inspired by the technical and practical lessons learned from Ukraine’s military engagements. He remarked, “As a result of this war, which has taken the Russians by surprise, we aim to leapfrog an entire technological era, ensuring that in the near future, Ukraine, Poland, and Europe are protected from aerial attacks.”
Tusk further highlighted the necessity for Poland to assimilate the combat experiences of Ukraine. He noted, “It is crucial for me that this tragic yet impressive experience of Ukraine in confronting Russia becomes part of our knowledge on how to defend Polish airspace.”
The discussion around drone technology extends beyond Poland. The European Union is contemplating its own initiative, referred to as a “drone wall,” intended to secure the continent’s perimeter. This consideration has gained urgency following a series of incidents last year linked to the incursions of Russian drones over various European nations.
Poland is moving forward with plans to build a substantial drone fleet, drawing insights from Ukraine's combat experience. This initiative reflects a broader European concern over aerial security, particularly in light of recent provocations involving Russian drones.
