New Military Pay Structure Introduced in Ukraine

The Ukrainian government has announced a new pay structure for military personnel, which will include a base salary of 20,000 hryvnias complemented by additional bonuses for combat assignments. Infantry soldiers stationed at the front lines will receive the highest compensation.

Three types of contracts have been established: infantry-assault, combat, and basic. All contracts are based on a uniform payment model—starting with a base salary of 20,000 hryvnias, plus extra rewards for engaging in combat tasks.

The infantry-assault contract is specifically designed for soldiers in various roles, including infantrymen, assault troops, combat medics, gunners, and drivers, as outlined by the Ministry of Defense. The duration of service varies based on the recruit’s background:

  • 14 months for civilians;
  • 10 months for active military personnel;
  • 6 months or more for those previously discharged during a special period.

Under this contract, the average monthly salary for an infantry soldier is expected to reach 300,000 hryvnias, with a maximum potential of 460,000 hryvnias.

Additional bonuses are structured as follows:

  • 10,000 hryvnias per day for tasks performed at combat positions at the level of a platoon stronghold;
  • 20,000 hryvnias for conducting offensive-search operations, which include eliminating small enemy groups, reconnaissance, evacuation, and reclaiming positions;
  • 40,000 hryvnias for assault actions involving advancement.

These bonuses will also apply to defenders engaged in combat tasks, even if they have not formally signed contracts.

If a soldier is temporarily stationed in the rear for deployment or leave, they will receive an additional 10,000 hryvnias, ensuring a minimum monthly income of 30,000 hryvnias.

The combat contract is aimed at drone pilots, operators of ground robotic systems, electronic warfare specialists, and artillery personnel, with a service period of 24 months. The minimum salary starts at 30,000 hryvnias, while the maximum can reach 120,000 hryvnias monthly.

Additional rewards for combat contract holders include:

  • 30,000 hryvnias for management and support roles;
  • 50,000 hryvnias at command posts;
  • 100,000 hryvnias for frontline combat.

Similar to the infantry-assault contract, if a soldier is temporarily away for deployment or leave, they will receive a base pay plus an additional 10,000 hryvnias. However, those actively engaged in frontline combat will earn bonuses based on the same structure as the infantry-assault contract.

The basic contract is designated for roles outside of combat units and spans 24 months. The minimum monthly salary is also set at 30,000 hryvnias.

For service in the rear, personnel will receive the base salary plus an additional 10,000 hryvnias. For combat tasks in headquarters or command centers, additional payments can reach up to 120,000 hryvnias monthly, similar to the combat contract. Bonuses for frontline assignments will follow the infantry-assault contract model.

Military personnel under the basic contract will have the option to transfer to either the combat or infantry-assault contracts.

To verify the presence of military personnel at specific locations, a mission control system will be implemented.

Ukraine has introduced a new military pay structure featuring base salaries and bonuses for combat roles. The system aims to incentivize soldiers, particularly those on the front lines, with significant financial rewards based on their duties.
