The residence of the Albanian ambassador in Ukraine sustained damage during a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv on the night of May 24. In response, the Russian diplomat was summoned for an explanation.
Albania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, describing it as a brutal and indiscriminate assault on civilian targets that disregards human life and decency. He noted that the missile strike hit a residential complex where the Albanian ambassador resides, putting his life in serious jeopardy. “This is unacceptable!” the minister stated.
The minister emphasized that targeting civilian areas or threatening diplomatic personnel represents a significant escalation and serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of Russia’s ongoing aggression. He remarked, “This war of choice has lasted too long. For over four years since its illegal full-scale invasion, Russia has relentlessly attacked energy infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and homes throughout Ukraine. Yet, it has failed to break the courage, resolve, resilience, and strength of the Ukrainian people,” he added.
The Albanian official reiterated that “Russia is not winning; it is only killing, destroying, and causing widespread devastation and suffering.” He also called for an immediate cessation of these attacks, urging Russia to end its war against Ukraine, adhere to international law, and return to negotiations.
Albania remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine, affirming its unwavering commitment to the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The minister stressed that those responsible for these attacks must be held accountable.
