In a recent address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia has launched a staggering 1,920 strike drones, 1,790 guided aerial bombs, and 17 different types of missiles against Ukraine in just one week. This surge in attacks underscores the urgent need for enhanced defensive measures.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of upcoming meetings with international partners, including those at the G7, EU, and NATO summits, to bolster Ukraine’s defenses against what he termed Russian terror. He stated, “We are preparing for discussions to strengthen our protection. It is crucial that these negotiations lead to concrete decisions.”
The president called for increased support in air defense and long-range capabilities, as well as an expansion of cooperation through initiatives like Drone Deals. He also highlighted the necessity of intensifying sanctions against Russia.
“We must conclude this war honorably and with guaranteed security. This can be achieved through the strength and unity of our partners and sustained pressure on Russia,” Zelensky remarked, expressing gratitude to those who have provided assistance.
Russian military forces have been consistently targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure using various weapons, including strike drones, missiles, and multiple rocket launch systems. These attacks have been characterized by Ukrainian authorities and international organizations as war crimes, aimed specifically at civilian targets.
Attacks on essential services and healthcare facilities are viewed as attempts to deprive the population of electricity, heat, water, communication, and medical care, raising concerns about potential genocidal actions.
In contrast, Russian officials deny that their military is intentionally striking civilian infrastructure, despite evidence of significant damage to hospitals, schools, and energy facilities.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has reported a dramatic increase in Russian attacks, urging for stronger international defense support. As the conflict escalates, the focus remains on securing commitments from allies to enhance Ukraine's military capabilities and impose further sanctions on Russia.
