Drone Attack Damages Chongar Bridge Linking Crimea and Kherson Region

In the early hours of June 9, a drone assault targeted the Chongar Bridge, which connects the Russian-occupied Crimea with the Russian-controlled part of the Kherson region. The attack resulted in damage to the bridge, prompting authorities to temporarily halt traffic, according to Vladimir Saldo, the head of the occupying administration.

Saldo reported that over 20 drones were intercepted by air defense systems as they approached the bridge, although the total number of drones involved in the attack has not been disclosed.

This incident follows a successful strike by Ukrainian forces on the same bridge on June 7, which also led to the temporary closure of the vehicle checkpoint at the border between Crimea and the Kherson region.

As of now, there has been no official response from Ukrainian military officials regarding the latest attack.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have intensified their operations targeting routes leading to Crimea. This strategy has resulted in significant fuel shortages on the peninsula. Since June 4, the sale of gasoline for cash has been completely banned in Crimea, with residents limited to purchasing no more than 20 liters at a time using vouchers, which are also in short supply.

A drone attack on the Chongar Bridge has disrupted traffic and caused damage, marking an escalation in Ukrainian military operations targeting routes to Crimea. The situation has exacerbated fuel shortages in the region as authorities implement strict controls on gasoline sales.
