Dnipro Declares Day of Mourning Amid Ongoing Russian Strikes

Dnipro has declared a day of mourning following a devastating attack that occurred on June 2, resulting in 16 fatalities and numerous injuries. Despite this, Russian forces continued their assault on the city, launching further strikes on June 3.

The initial attack involved a combination of ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles, as well as drones, targeting various locations in Dnipro. The assault caused significant destruction, including damage to residential buildings, a fire station, and vehicles.

After search and rescue operations concluded, authorities confirmed that 42 individuals were injured, including four children, with three in critical condition. Dnipro’s mayor, Boris Filatov, provided updates on the situation, emphasizing the ongoing medical assistance being provided to the victims.

On the evening of June 3, Filatov officially designated the day as one of mourning, instructing that flags be lowered at city buildings and public institutions. However, shortly after this announcement, reports emerged of a drone strike hitting a residential building, injuring an eight-year-old girl.

Later that day, Russian forces targeted a warehouse belonging to the supermarket chain ATB. Filatov criticized the attacks, stating, “We are sending them a corvette in Kronstadt, and they are hitting our food warehouses in Dnipro.” This strike resulted in further complications for emergency services already responding to the initial attack.

In the aftermath of the attacks, eight more individuals were reported injured, with seven requiring hospitalization, three of whom are in serious condition. The strikes also affected multiple residential buildings and a kindergarten, damaging around a hundred windows.

Additionally, a terminal of Nova Poshta, a major logistics company, was struck during the continued assaults. Olexandr Hanha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, noted that the extent of the damage was still being assessed, but confirmed that employees were safe as they were in shelters at the time of the attack.

Dnipro faces a tragic aftermath of Russian strikes, declaring a day of mourning while enduring continued assaults. The attacks have resulted in numerous casualties and significant damage to infrastructure.
