The European Union is finalizing a substantial support package aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s drone fleet, with an estimated cost of €6 billion. This initiative is part of the EU’s broader strategy to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities in light of recent escalated attacks from Russia.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the urgency of this funding, citing a recent wave of drone assaults on Ukrainian cities. “Last night, Russia launched one of its longest and most brutal drone attacks on Ukraine. Another night of death and destruction,” she stated, underscoring the dire situation faced by the Ukrainian population.
As the Kremlin continues to disregard diplomatic efforts, von der Leyen affirmed that the EU will persist in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities while intensifying economic pressure on Russia. “We are finalizing a drone support package worth €6 billion. We will continue to target Russia’s military economy with increasingly stringent sanctions,” she added.
