Ukraine’s President Warns of Continued Conflict Amid Ceasefire Agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised concerns about ongoing hostilities, stating that Russia has not adhered to the ceasefire agreement. In a video address on May 11, he noted that combat operations were still occurring on the front lines, indicating a high likelihood of renewed attacks from Russia.

“Today, there was no silence at the front; we recorded combat activities. We see that Russia has no intention of ending this war, and unfortunately, we are preparing for new assaults. However, peace must prevail, and we are working towards that,” Zelensky said.

Earlier that day, Zelensky spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, condemning recent Iranian attacks on the UAE. He emphasized the need for measures to protect lives in the Gulf region, which holds global significance. “It is important that our teams continue to work closely in the security sphere. I was pleased to hear that Ukrainian expertise is indeed helping to build reliable defenses for life. We discussed the continuation of this work,” he added.

On May 8, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, set to take effect from May 9 to May 11. According to Trump, the ceasefire would involve a halt to hostilities and a prisoner exchange of 1,000 individuals on each side. He stated that the request for a ceasefire came from him, and both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to the terms.

Confirmations of the ceasefire were later received from both Kyiv and Moscow, although Zelensky’s latest remarks suggest skepticism regarding its implementation.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of a ceasefire agreement with Russia, citing ongoing combat. His comments follow a recent dialogue with UAE's leader and a ceasefire announcement by U.S. President Trump.
