Trump Indicates Potential Extension of Ukraine-Russia Ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism regarding the possibility of extending a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. During a recent press briefing, he affirmed that the three-day truce he announced could potentially last longer.

When asked by journalists if the ceasefire could be prolonged, Trump responded affirmatively, stating, “It would be good. I would like to see it stop. Russia and Ukraine represent the worst situation since World War II in terms of human losses. Twenty-five thousand young soldiers are lost each month. It’s madness. So, it could very well be.”

On May 8, Trump declared a three-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Following this announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed plans for a prisoner exchange, with a ratio of 1,000 soldiers from each side, to take place on May 9.

Additionally, Zelensky endorsed Trump’s ceasefire initiative, which is set to take effect from May 9 to May 11. The Ukrainian government has also officially permitted Russia to conduct a parade in Moscow on May 9 as part of the ceasefire agreement.

In response to Zelensky’s directive, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on the Ukrainian president’s decision to allow the parade, highlighting the significance of the event in the context of the truce.

President Trump has indicated the possibility of extending a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which he announced earlier this month. The ceasefire aims to reduce human losses in the ongoing conflict, with plans for a prisoner exchange also confirmed by Ukrainian officials.
