Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan are scheduled to participate in the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9. This announcement was made by their respective press services, as reported by the regional service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Tokayev’s spokesperson, Aibek Smadiyarov, confirmed that the Kazakh leader will attend the ceremonial events in the Russian capital. He noted that the Kremlin expressed satisfaction with this decision, describing Tokayev’s upcoming visit as a “friendly gesture.”
As part of the visit, a separate meeting between Tokayev and Russian President Vladimir Putin is planned, during which the two leaders will discuss bilateral cooperation ahead of Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan.
On May 8, Mirziyoyev’s press service announced that he had already departed for Moscow. The statement indicated that the Uzbek president’s itinerary includes participation in the commemorative events marking the 81st anniversary of the victory in World War II.
The Kremlin has announced the attendance of leaders from six countries, as well as representatives from the Republika Srpska (part of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in Georgia, for the Victory Day celebrations. Among those confirmed to attend is Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who will be in Moscow but will not participate in the parade.
