Ukrainian President Discusses Diplomatic Efforts with Slovak Prime Minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently engaged in discussions with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico regarding diplomatic strategies and future prospects for peace. This conversation comes as Fico prepares to visit Moscow, where he is expected to convey a message from Zelensky to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Dmytro Lytvyn, an advisor to President Zelensky, confirmed the nature of the talks, stating that Fico inquired about Ukraine’s stance on the ongoing conflict. Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to ending the war and expressed a willingness to meet with leaders in a meaningful dialogue aimed at achieving substantial resolutions.

Fico’s upcoming trip to Moscow has raised eyebrows, particularly as he intends to deliver a message from Zelensky to Putin. Rostislav Khovanets, the Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister, indicated that Fico’s discussions with Putin could yield valuable insights into Russia’s perspective on efforts to halt the conflict. Khovanets stressed the importance of dialogue among all parties involved, suggesting that European leaders should actively pursue negotiations to secure a peaceful agreement.

Fico has announced plans to attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9. However, he faced challenges regarding his travel, as Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have denied his aircraft passage through their airspace. On May 23, Fico declared that he would not participate in the military parade but would instead lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Ukrainian President Zelensky and Slovak Prime Minister Fico discussed diplomatic avenues for peace, with Fico set to relay a message to Putin. The dialogue underscores the ongoing efforts for conflict resolution amidst regional tensions.
