Ukrainian Forces Strike Russian Oil Refinery and Military Assets

On April 30, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported successful strikes against several Russian military targets, including an oil refinery in the Orenburg region. These operations, conducted on April 29 and into the early hours of April 30, are part of ongoing efforts to undermine Russian military capabilities.

The refinery, known as “Orsknefteorgsintez” located in the city of Orsk, was reportedly hit, resulting in a fire at the facility. This site plays a crucial role in supplying fuel to the Russian military, producing over 30 types of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, with an annual processing capacity of 6.6 million tons of crude oil.

In addition to the refinery, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported targeting several other military assets:

  • Russian Mi-28 and Mi-17 helicopters in the vicinity of Babki in the Voronezh region
  • A Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system near Oleksandrivka in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region
  • A command post for an artillery brigade in the occupied city of Lysychansk
  • A munitions depot in the Kreminivka area of occupied Donetsk
  • A base for Russian boats in the Black Sea

As of now, Russian military leadership has not confirmed these strikes. Independent verification of the reported incidents has not been possible.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 189 Ukrainian drones overnight on April 30 and reported the destruction of ten more during the latter part of April 29. Earlier that day, Artem Vorobyov, the mayor of Orsk, acknowledged a drone attack on the city.

Reports of helicopter strikes in Voronezh were also mentioned by Robert Brovdi, commander of the Drone Forces. Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various targets within Russia have faced aerial assaults, particularly oil refineries, which have frequently been targeted in 2024 and 2025. Ukrainian forces have also conducted strikes on Russian assets within Ukraine.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has confirmed many of these attacks, stating that Ukrainian defense forces are systematically implementing measures to diminish the combat potential of Russian occupying forces and to compel Russia to cease its military aggression against Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces have targeted a key oil refinery in Russia, among other military assets, as part of ongoing operations to weaken Russian military capabilities. These strikes reflect a broader strategy to disrupt supply lines and operational readiness of Russian forces amid the ongoing conflict.
