General Lieutenant Krzysztof Krol has raised alarms regarding Russia’s ongoing provocations against Poland, asserting that the nation is already engaged in a form of warfare. Krol’s comments, reported by The New York Times, emphasize the need for NATO to adopt a more decisive stance.
“They are testing us. They have made it clear: we are already at war with you. You are trying to contain us militarily. But we can strike at any time—across your society, deep within your territory,” Krol stated.
He referenced a significant incident from last autumn, where Russia attempted to undermine Polish railway connections with Ukraine, a move that could have resulted in the deaths of 473 passengers.
“What could trigger the activation of Article 5 (NATO’s collective defense clause)? For instance, this attack on the Polish railway did not result in casualties. However, had it succeeded, hundreds could have died. Just imagine. Would that then be a sufficient reason to invoke Article 5? And what would the next phase of our relations with Russia look like?” Krol emphasized.
The general also urged NATO member states to consider employing mirror hybrid responses to counteract Russian actions, warning that failure to do so could lead to long-term setbacks.
General Lieutenant Krzysztof Krol has warned that Russia is testing Poland's defenses and has already initiated a form of warfare. He calls for NATO to respond more decisively to these provocations, highlighting a past incident that could have had catastrophic consequences.
