EU Council President Acknowledges Ukraine’s Pipeline Repairs

On April 21, European Council President António Costa responded positively to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement regarding the repairs on the Druzhba oil pipeline.

Costa expressed gratitude to Zelensky for fulfilling agreements related to the pipeline’s restoration, stating, “Thank you, President Zelensky, for executing the agreements: the repair of the Druzhba pipeline and the resumption of its operations.”

Zelensky also mentioned that he discussed unlocking a €90 billion financial aid package with Costa, asserting that Ukraine has met the European Union’s requests.

In addition, the Ukrainian leader highlighted security agreements between Ukraine and countries in the Middle East and the Gulf region. He noted, “The life protection system we offer partners through the Drone Deal is truly unique. We have already begun this cooperation with certain European nations and agreed to continue discussions in a personal meeting soon. It is crucial for Europe to be united and protected.”

Earlier on the same day, Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine had completed repairs on the Druzhba pipeline. This announcement came after Peter Madyar, the victor of Hungary’s recent elections, urged Zelensky to restore operations on the damaged pipeline as soon as possible.

The European Council President praised Ukraine's efforts in repairing the Druzhba oil pipeline and discussed financial aid and security agreements. Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's commitment to fulfilling EU requests and enhancing regional security cooperation.
