Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Supports EU Travel Ban for Russian Combatants

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has expressed his approval of European Commission President Kaja Kallas’s recent statement regarding a proposed travel ban on Russians participating in military actions against Ukraine. Sybiha characterized Kallas’s announcement as a significant and timely measure.

In his remarks, Sybiha emphasized that such a ban would send a clear message to Russians who enlist in what he termed a “criminal aggressive war” against Ukraine. He stated, “By signing a contract to participate in this war, they simultaneously sign a ban on entering Europe. This is fair. If you are fighting to harm Europe and its nations, you should not have the right to enter.”

Sybiha urged all EU member states to support this important initiative, framing it as a necessary step to uphold European security. His comments come in the wake of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, where Kallas presented a framework for future security guarantees for Ukraine.

This proposal reflects ongoing discussions within the EU regarding how to respond to the conflict in Ukraine and the implications of Russian military actions. The potential travel ban is part of broader efforts to hold accountable those involved in the conflict and to deter further aggression.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha endorsed the EU's proposed travel ban on Russians fighting in Ukraine, viewing it as a crucial step for European security. His call for EU member states to support the initiative highlights ongoing efforts to address the implications of the conflict.
