In the early hours of April 19, Ukraine faced a significant aerial assault from Russia, which launched 236 strike drones from multiple directions. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted most of the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The attack commenced at 17:30 on April 18 and continued into the morning of April 19, involving various types of drones, including the Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models. The drones were reportedly launched from regions such as Kursk, Orel, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Shatalovo, as well as from occupied territories in Donetsk and Crimea.
Approximately 150 of the drones deployed were identified as Shahed models. Ukrainian defense efforts included the use of aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups.
As of 08:00 on April 19, preliminary reports indicated that Ukrainian air defense had successfully shot down or suppressed 203 enemy drones of various types across northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.
Despite the defensive measures, 32 strike drones managed to hit 18 locations, resulting in debris falling in eight different areas. Ukrainian Air Force officials have cautioned the public to remain vigilant as the attack was ongoing, stating, “The attack continues, and enemy drones are still in the airspace. Please adhere to safety regulations!”
