Ukraine’s Defense Capabilities Enhanced by Drones, Says President Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on April 13 that the nation’s drone technology has fundamentally transformed its military strategies, marking a historic moment where Ukraine possesses sufficient weaponry to defend against Russian attacks.

During a speech for Armaments Day, Zelensky emphasized that the courage of Ukrainian soldiers and the resilience of the populace have enabled the country to withstand full-scale aggression and even shift the conflict onto the aggressor’s territory.

He acknowledged the contributions of workers in the defense industry, presenting them with state honors, including posthumous awards and titles such as “Honored Machine Builder of Ukraine.”

“Today, our drone strikes are no longer a sensation, although each time they bring very justifiable and pleasing news. Our Ukrainian drones have fundamentally changed the approach to warfare,” Zelensky stated.

Zelensky pointed out that while artillery numbers once dictated outcomes, the battlefield now relies on infantry bravery and the extensive use of drones.

He also mentioned that Ukraine is developing ground robotic systems which are gaining increasing importance on the front lines, alongside its own electronic warfare capabilities.

“An absolute priority is our air defense, capable of countering ballistic threats. Many in Europe are considering this, and it’s crucial who can achieve this first, either independently or with partners. Ukraine can be that leader,” he remarked.

The President highlighted Ukraine’s advancements in missile production and the development of defense software, armored vehicles, and artillery systems.

Zelensky noted that countries from Europe, the Middle East, the Gulf, Asia, and Africa are showing interest in Ukrainian weaponry and military expertise, and Ukraine is establishing frameworks to facilitate this.

“We are following a model that is understandable to many nations, especially those conservative in agreements. They recognize what a government-to-government (G2G) agreement entails. […] At the G2G level, there is greater trust,” he explained.

He added that post-intergovernmental agreements lead to contracts between private or state-owned enterprises.

Zelensky also remarked on the rapid development of defense technologies during wartime, urging defense industry enterprises to continue introducing new innovations. A key point in the strategy for developing Ukraine’s defense sector is the establishment of modern production lines that will be continuously improved.

President Zelensky emphasized Ukraine's enhanced military capabilities through drone technology during a recent speech, highlighting the nation's readiness to defend against Russian aggression. He acknowledged the contributions of the defense industry and outlined the importance of ongoing innovation in military technology.
