Ukrainian President Reports Return of 8,669 Citizens Amid Ongoing Prisoner Exchanges

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a total of 8,669 Ukrainians have returned home since the establishment of the Coordination Headquarters, which focuses on facilitating the return of citizens from captivity during the ongoing conflict.

In a statement marking the fourth anniversary of this vital state institution, Zelensky emphasized its significance in reuniting families and providing hope to those awaiting the return of loved ones. He noted,

“This March, we celebrated the fourth anniversary of one of our most important state institutions – the one that brings people back to Ukraine from captivity and gives us all hope to see our loved ones at home.”

The president highlighted that among those returned are both military personnel and civilians, some of whom had been held captive since the onset of the hybrid war, enduring captivity for ten years or more. Zelensky remarked,

“It is always good news on any day, week, or month when Ukrainians return, and we see that lives are saved.”

In related developments, on March 5-6, Ukraine and Russia publicly agreed to a significant prisoner exchange involving 500 individuals from each side. This exchange was structured in two phases: the first phase involved the release of 200 military personnel, while the second phase, executed on March 6, saw an additional 300 Ukrainian defenders return home.

The successful execution of these exchanges underscores ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian aspects of the conflict, as both nations continue to navigate complex negotiations surrounding the treatment and return of prisoners.

President Zelensky reported the return of 8,669 Ukrainians through a dedicated coordination effort, highlighting the importance of ongoing prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia. These developments reflect the broader humanitarian efforts amidst the ongoing conflict.
