Ukrainian Forces Target Russian Air Defense Systems in Recent Strikes

In the early hours of March 16, Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted strikes against Russian air defense systems and command points in temporarily occupied territories. This operation aimed to diminish the offensive capabilities of Russian forces.

The General Staff reported that a “TOR-M1” surface-to-air missile system was hit near Korobkine in the Luhansk region, along with another “TOR” system close to Balashivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Additionally, a radar station associated with the S-300 air defense system was damaged in the area of Chervone in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian units also targeted Russian command posts, with confirmed strikes on command and observation points in the Stepanne area of Donetsk region and the Bahatyi area of Zaporizhzhia region. The extent of damage and enemy losses is currently being assessed.

The General Staff emphasized that combat operations are ongoing.

Overview of the “TOR” and “TOR-M1” Systems

The “TOR” surface-to-air missile system is designed for short-range air defense, protecting ground forces from aerial attacks at altitudes ranging from 10 meters to 10 kilometers. A key feature of this system is its full autonomy; a single combat vehicle can independently detect, track, and destroy targets, including cruise missiles, guided bombs, and drones.

The upgraded “TOR-M1” variant can engage two targets simultaneously, offers improved accuracy, and has enhanced resistance to electronic countermeasures. Its tracked chassis allows for high mobility, enabling it to operate directly in combat zones while providing protection for assets within a radius of 12 to 15 kilometers.

Ukrainian Defense Forces have targeted Russian air defense systems and command points in recent strikes, aiming to reduce the enemy's offensive capabilities. The operation involved significant damage to key military assets, with ongoing assessments of the impact.
