IMF Begins Meetings in Ukraine for Funding Program Review

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has initiated meetings in Ukraine as part of the first review of its current funding program. This was announced by Priscilla Toffano, the IMF’s resident representative in Ukraine, in a statement received by Radio Free Europe on May 27.

Toffano stated, “The IMF mission, led by Gavin Gray, is starting discussions today with Ukrainian authorities and other partners regarding the first review of the extended funding program and consultations for 2026 under Article IV of the IMF Agreement.”

She emphasized that the discussions will focus on macroeconomic policy and essential structural reforms.

As of now, members of the Ukrainian government have not commented on the meetings with IMF representatives.

Earlier in March, Ukraine received its first tranche from the IMF under a new four-year program established through the Extended Fund Facility. In February, the IMF’s Board of Directors approved an $8.1 billion extended funding program for Ukraine.

The IMF has commenced discussions in Ukraine to review its funding program, focusing on macroeconomic policies and structural reforms. This follows the approval of an $8.1 billion funding package earlier this year.
