The National Bank of Ukraine has announced updated currency exchange rates for February 19, indicating a slight increase in the values of both the US dollar and the euro.
The official exchange rate for the dollar will rise by 4 kopecks to 43.29 UAH, while the euro will increase by 9 kopecks to 51.25 UAH.
Exchange Guidelines:
- Acceptable Damage: Cashiers are required to accept banknotes with minor damages, such as stains or wear, as valid currency.
- Severely Damaged Notes: Heavily worn or torn banknotes will be accepted for collection and sent abroad for exchange, usually incurring a fee.
- Authenticity Verification: If there is doubt regarding a banknote’s authenticity, it can be sent for free examination to the National Bank of Ukraine.
- Outcome of Verification: Genuine banknotes, even if worn, will be returned to the owner, while counterfeit notes will be confiscated without compensation and handed over to the police.
As stated on the National Bank’s website, financial institutions must verify the authenticity and payment features of foreign currency banknotes.
For ordinary exchanges, notes with minor damage should be accepted without issue. However, notes that are significantly damaged will need to be submitted for collection, and the bank will facilitate their exchange.
Individuals can also submit requests for authenticity checks independently.
This update serves as a reminder for currency holders regarding the treatment of damaged or suspicious banknotes.
