Ukrainian President Zelensky Calls for Enhanced Defense Measures Amid Russian Threats

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky convened a daily meeting to discuss the current situation across various regions, during which he instructed military and energy officials to prepare additional defense measures in response to intelligence reports indicating a potential large-scale Russian attack.

In a message posted on Telegram, Zelensky specified that he tasked Air Force Commander Anatoliy Kryvonozhko, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Ukrenergo Chief Vitaliy Zaychenko to devise necessary protective strategies throughout the day, taking into account the latest intelligence.

“I instructed the commander of the Air Force of Ukraine, Anatoliy Kryvonozhko, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Ukrenergo head Vitaliy Zaychenko to prepare necessary additional defense measures based on intelligence regarding Russia’s preparation for a massive strike,” Zelensky stated.

During the meeting, the president also received updates on the aftermath of a recent Russian missile attack targeting energy facilities, emphasizing that the air defense systems had performed effectively. He noted that despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, including upcoming trilateral talks in Geneva, Russia continues its assaults on Ukraine.

“This clearly demonstrates Russia’s attitude towards the diplomatic efforts of our partners. Each Russian missile is a response from the aggressor to calls for an end to the war, and that is why we insist: only with sufficient pressure on Russia and clear security guarantees can we realistically conclude this war. I thank everyone who supports us in this,” he remarked.

The meeting also focused on the situation in Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Ternopil, as well as Kropyvnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia. Zelensky instructed the government to increase aid for Kharkiv under the “Warm Package” program.

Additionally, preparations for the upcoming energy “Ramstein” meeting were discussed. Zelensky indicated that this event, scheduled for this week in France, would involve G7 countries, partners from Northern Europe and the Baltics, as well as ministers from the United States, Canada, and the European Union. Specific needs were identified, and the energy minister, Denys Shmyhal, would focus on these support packages.

“In recent days, we have discussed energy matters with some partners on the sidelines of the Munich conference, and we need to implement existing agreements in the coming days. We are also working to expedite the supply of missiles for air defense — this remains a top priority. The task of all relevant institutions in our state is to accelerate our partners on air defense,” Zelensky added.

President Zelensky has called for enhanced defensive measures in Ukraine amid escalating threats from Russia. The meeting addressed recent missile attacks and preparations for international energy discussions.
