Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on representatives of former U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Kyiv personally to gain a clearer perspective on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In an exclusive interview, Zelensky emphasized that external assessments cannot replace firsthand experience.
According to Zelensky, the visit by Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, is essential for them to understand the realities on the ground. “We should not treat their arrival as a major event; we are already in contact with them. However, their visit is more crucial for them than for us. It is disrespectful to travel to Moscow without making a trip to Kyiv,” he stated.
The president noted that such a visit would help in forming a more accurate understanding of the situation both at the front and across the country. “Decisions cannot be made from a distance without grasping the reality,” he added.
Zelensky also suggested that one of the quickest ways to halt hostilities could be to cease fighting along the current front line and transition to a diplomatic process. He stressed that this scenario would require the agreement of all parties involved:
“This is the fastest format to stop what the Americans call the killings. It is essential that all serious players are engaged in this process, not just playing their own game, but sharing a common understanding.”
U.S. and Ukraine Relations
In related news, the Pentagon has indicated that U.S. support for Ukraine, which has relied on limited American resources, is no longer sustainable. Previously, a professor of strategic studies at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland mentioned that Ukraine is considering stepping back from cooperation with the U.S. in the resolution of the ongoing war.
