A Ukrainian woman has embarked on an ambitious renovation project after purchasing an abandoned clay cottage near a forest. Over the past year, she has documented the extensive restoration efforts on social media, showcasing the transformation of the property.
Initially, the renovation involved clearing years of accumulated debris, removing old wallpaper, and sanitizing the walls. In a video shared on TikTok under the title “Revival of the Homestead,” the owner detailed the restoration of wooden window frames, many of which were in disrepair, and the complete replacement of outdated electrical wiring in several rooms.
The centerpiece of the home is a newly reconstructed wood-burning stove, while the attic has been renovated to preserve the building’s original characteristics, including insulation and clay treatment.
Additionally, the owners have poured a foundation for a future extension, which will house a modern kitchen.
Living Amidst Renovations
Despite the significant progress, living conditions in the cottage remain basic. There is currently no indoor plumbing; water is sourced from an outdoor well. A bathroom and shower are located in the yard and are not yet operational. The only modern conveniences in the house are gas and electricity, while internet access has been established but is not yet connected.
The renovation process is ongoing, with some rooms already taking shape while others await major reconstruction.
Landscaping Developments
Work is also being carried out outside the cottage. Following the demolition of dilapidated sheds, the area has been transformed into garden beds and flower patches. The previously overgrown land is being systematically cleared of brush, with plans for planting a garden. “There is a forest nearby, stunning views, and an old fence,” the owner noted.
Earlier reports highlighted the potential pitfalls of purchasing inexpensive rural properties in Ukraine, which can sometimes lead to unexpected financial burdens.
