Ukrainian National Security Secretary Interrogated in Corruption Case

Rustem Umerov, the current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, has been interrogated as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption involving former Defense Minister Timur Mindich. Umerov is currently classified as a witness in the case, according to statements made by officials at a recent briefing.

Alexander Klimenko, the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), confirmed that Umerov was questioned by a detective from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). Klimenko emphasized that the investigation is focused on specific actions of individuals to determine if any criminal offenses have occurred.

Semen Kryvonos, the head of NABU, stated that the interrogation of Umerov was conducted within the framework of the pre-trial investigation. This inquiry is part of a broader probe into Mindich, who is suspected of establishing a criminal organization, money laundering, and exerting illegal influence over Umerov during the procurement of Israeli body armor.

Details of the Mindich Case

Reports indicate that Umerov provided testimony to NABU investigators regarding a so-called back-office operation linked to Mindich, who is under investigation for large-scale corruption. The allegations suggest that Mindich’s organization may have pressured Umerov during procurement processes.
