Ukrainian military personnel returning after unauthorized absence may have the opportunity to transfer to their preferred units, subject to specific conditions. This information was shared by the Chernivtsi Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support on its official Facebook page.
The announcement addressed inquiries from service members regarding the possibility of transferring to specific formations with a recommendation letter. The center confirmed that such transfers are feasible.
According to the center, “Yes, this is possible. As per the personnel movement algorithm of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, written consents from combat brigades requiring reinforcement are still accepted and considered.” However, not all personnel will be able to obtain such approval. The type of structure issuing the document is a critical factor in this process.
Representatives from the center indicated that battalion commanders in reserve will disregard recommendation letters issued by support institutions. Instead, these military personnel will be directed exclusively to priority reinforcement locations, with combat units receiving preference.
The center emphasized that the overall system is designed to prioritize the replenishment of combat personnel. Consequently, only those seeking transfers to combat brigades are likely to have a chance to choose their specific service location.
Military Motivation
Previously, reports indicated that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is exploring methods to reduce instances of unauthorized absence in the Armed Forces. Proposed measures include differentiated service terms for infantry and assault units to create fairer conditions. Additionally, the ministry plans to review the mobilization system and enhance financial compensation for personnel in these units, believing these changes will decrease the motivation for unauthorized absence and improve recruitment.
