Ukrainian authorities have apprehended a soldier suspected of leaking critical military information to representatives of Russia. This operation was carried out by the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
According to investigators, the soldier, after being mobilized and serving in a border unit, established contact with a Russian intelligence officer via a messaging app and agreed to provide information in exchange for money. He reportedly transmitted details about aircraft movement routes and the locations of air defense systems, radar stations, and mobile fire groups.
The DBR has indicated that this breach of security posed significant risks not only to the operations of Ukraine’s defense forces but also to the lives of numerous military personnel and civilians. During his activities, the soldier utilized specialized software designed for radar operators, enabling him to access detailed aerial situation data beyond his unit’s immediate area and relay it to enemy forces.
The information he provided was not publicly accessible and could potentially be exploited by aggressors to target Ukrainian military and civilian sites. Investigators have documented several instances of data transmission.
In April 2026, the soldier was detained on charges of treason, and a court has since remanded him in custody without bail. He faces a potential sentence of up to fifteen years in prison or life imprisonment, along with asset confiscation.
