Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that there were no large-scale enemy attacks on May 10, despite ongoing hostilities along the front lines. He noted that Russian forces continue to engage in offensive operations, disregarding any ceasefire agreements.
In a statement delivered on Sunday evening, Zelensky remarked, “It is encouraging that, as of today, there have been no mass attacks—no missile strikes or aerial assaults. However, calm has not prevailed in frontline areas, where Russian troops maintain their assault activity in key directions. There have been numerous shellings and various types of drone strikes. Over the past two days, there have been more than 150 assault actions, over a hundred shellings, and nearly ten thousand kamikaze drone strikes. Thus, the Russian army is not adhering to any silence and is not even making an effort to do so.”
Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian forces are responding in kind to Russian actions. He confirmed that on May 9 and 10, Ukraine refrained from long-range strikes against Russia in response to the absence of mass attacks from the Russian side. He stated, “Moving forward, we will continue to respond in a mirrored fashion, and if the Russians decide to revert to full-scale warfare, our ‘sanctions’ will be immediate and impactful. The distance is becoming less significant, as we have demonstrated our long-range capabilities. Ukraine will always act clearly and honestly in this regard.”
In the context of the conflict, several key developments have occurred:
- On May 8, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a three-day ceasefire in the war between Ukraine and Russia.
- President Zelensky confirmed the ceasefire with Russia for May 9-11 and announced a prisoner exchange of 1,000 soldiers on May 9.
- Zelensky’s decree also permitted Russia to hold a parade on May 9 as part of the ceasefire.
- Russia has agreed to support Trump’s initiative for a ceasefire and the prisoner exchange during the specified dates.
- According to the Ukrainian General Staff, there were 147 recorded combat engagements on May 9 alone.
President Zelensky reported no major attacks on May 10, while Russian forces continue their offensive operations. Ukraine is responding in kind, maintaining a cautious approach amid ongoing conflict.
