Authorities in Kyiv have recovered the explosive component of a Russian strike drone, identified as the “Geran-2,” following a significant attack on the city.
The incident occurred after a large-scale bombardment by Russian forces on June 15, prompting reports of an explosive device near a busy intersection in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The police received a call on their emergency line, 102, alerting them to the discovery.
Police units arrived promptly at the scene, cordoning off the area where debris from the drone was located. Investigators documented the incident, which they classified as another act of aggression by Russia. Bomb disposal experts from the Kyiv police subsequently removed the explosive for controlled destruction at a specialized facility.
Initial assessments indicate that the recovered debris is part of the combat payload from the “Geran-2” drone, a designation used by Russia for the Shahed drone, which was deployed during a coordinated assault on Ukrainian territory.
In a public safety reminder, the police advised citizens to avoid approaching any suspicious or potentially explosive items and to report such findings immediately to the appropriate emergency services.
