The Ukrainian Ground Forces have launched an investigation following the emergence of a video depicting the assault of a soldier during a military formation. The incident, which has circulated widely on social media, has raised concerns regarding military conduct and discipline.
In a statement, the military clarified that the commander of the 155th Separate Marine Brigade is not involved in the actions shown in the footage. The investigation aims to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to assess the legal implications for those involved.
“Based on the information available at this time, the commander of the 155th Separate Marine Brigade is not the individual depicted in the video and is not connected to the actions displayed. A service investigation has been initiated to establish all the facts of the incident and to provide an appropriate legal assessment of the actions of those involved,” the statement read.
The military also indicated that appropriate responses would be coordinated with law enforcement authorities following the investigation.
The soldier who was assaulted is receiving necessary medical care, and military leadership is in contact with his family to provide support.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine do not tolerate violence, humiliation of human dignity, or actions that violate military discipline and law. All established facts will be subject to proper legal evaluation, and those found responsible will be held accountable according to the law,” the statement continued.
According to the Military Law Enforcement Service, the assault was carried out by a soldier serving as a drone operator in one of the units. Following the incident, the soldier reportedly left the military unit without authorization.
“After the offense, he voluntarily left the military unit. Alerts for his apprehension have been sent to all units of the Military Law Enforcement Service and the National Police. Search operations are ongoing,” the report stated.
The main department of the Military Law Enforcement Service is overseeing the progress of the service investigation to ensure accountability and transparency.
