Ukrainian High Jumper Yaroslav Maguchikh Claims Gold at Diamond League in Rabat

Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslav Maguchikh secured her first victory of the summer season by winning gold at the Diamond League event in Rabat.

This marked the second consecutive Diamond League competition featuring two Ukrainian athletes, with Julia Levchenko competing after her recent triumph in Xiamen, while Maguchikh stepped in for Irina Gerashchenko.

Competition Highlights

  • Levchenko was the first of the two Ukrainians to compete, successfully clearing her opening heights of 1.83 and 1.87 meters on her first attempts.
  • Both athletes surpassed the 1.91-meter mark, with Maguchikh achieving this height on her first try, while Levchenko needed two attempts. Six athletes cleared this height, including Eleanor Patterson, Lamara Distin, Charity Hafnagel, and Angelina Topich.
  • Levchenko’s competition ended at 1.94 meters, where she was unable to clear the height in her three attempts, ultimately finishing in fourth place.
  • The medals were contested among Maguchikh, Patterson, and Topich, but the Serbian athlete opted to withdraw after clearing 1.94 meters, settling for bronze.
  • In the battle for gold, Maguchikh cleared 1.97 meters on her second attempt. Patterson, who had only cleared this height once this season, was unable to match her personal best and took silver based on attempts.
  • After securing gold, Maguchikh attempted to improve her performance by setting the bar at 2.00 meters but failed to clear it in her two attempts. She then raised the bar to 2.02 meters, which she also could not clear.
