On May 15, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi announced a new directive aimed at enhancing the collection, processing, and preservation of information related to violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian military.
This order establishes standardized operational procedures for documenting war crimes identified during combat and special operations, as well as the systematic recording of this information within the “Delta Integration Platform.”
“Every Russian war crime will be recorded. Every piece of evidence will be preserved. Every criminal will be identified. […] This is all part of the digital evidence base for court proceedings,” Syrskyi stated.
Syrskyi also noted that the coordination for these efforts will be managed by the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces, which will include a dedicated office for documenting violations of conflict laws.
In a separate incident on May 12, Ukrainian troops from the 225th Separate Assault Brigade encountered an ambush in the Huliaipole area, resulting in the deaths of two defenders. Following the attack, reports indicated that Russian forces committed further atrocities.
Ukrainian military leadership has taken significant steps to formalize the documentation of war crimes committed by Russian forces. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive digital evidence base for future legal proceedings.
