Sergiy Shefir has addressed the recent investigation by Bihus.Info, which focused on his family’s assets abroad. He emphasized that the majority of his properties were acquired before his political career began and that all income has been declared.
In a statement, Shefir remarked on the professionalism of the Bihus.Info report, acknowledging its quality while noting that he wished to clarify certain points. He highlighted that 99% of his real estate in the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom was purchased with his own funds several years prior to entering politics.
“The origins of the funds are reflected in the declarations I submit annually, and I pay taxes regularly, in accordance with the law,” Shefir stated.
He also addressed the investigation’s omission regarding his family, stating that his son has been serving as a volunteer in the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2022. Shefir remarked, “Did the investigative journalist forget to mention, or was it intentionally left out, that my son has not fled and has been serving as a volunteer since 2022?”
Furthermore, Shefir noted that his wife has been actively involved in volunteer work since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion, frequently traveling to the front lines in Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Concluding his remarks, Shefir confirmed that he remains in Ukraine and continues to work. “I am in Ukraine, not planning to go anywhere, and I continue to engage in my favorite work, producing programs, series, and films,” he stated.
The Bihus.Info investigation, published on May 14, revealed that shortly after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced suspicions against several members of parliament regarding corruption, Shefir signed an agreement with his wife to divide their assets. This agreement transferred nearly all family assets into her ownership, which could be interpreted as an attempt to shield those assets from potential seizures.
According to media reports, the family’s assets include an apartment in Kyiv near the NSC Olimpiyskiy, land in Riviera Village near Kyiv, multi-million dollar apartments in Prague, as well as properties belonging to his brother Boris Shefir in Zakarpattia and commercial real estate on Prorizna Street. Journalists estimate that the family has accumulated assets worth millions of dollars during Shefir’s tenure in the Office of the President, a claim he has denied.
Sergiy Shefir has responded to a Bihus.Info investigation that scrutinized his family's foreign assets, asserting that most properties were acquired prior to his political career and all income is declared. He also highlighted his family's contributions to the military and volunteer efforts amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
