Ukrainian Air Defense Neutralizes Majority of Russian Drones in Recent Attack

In the early hours of May 26, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted 111 out of 122 drones launched by Russian military forces during a coordinated attack. This incident, reported by the Ukrainian Air Force, included strikes on 11 locations across the country.

The assault, which began at 6:00 PM on May 25, involved two Iskander-M ballistic missiles fired from Russia’s Rostov region and the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, alongside 122 strike drones of various types, including the Shahed series, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones known as Parody. These drones were launched from multiple regions, including Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from the occupied territory of Crimea.

Ukrainian defense forces employed a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups to counter the aerial threat. According to preliminary reports, by 8:30 AM, air defense systems had downed or suppressed 111 drones, including those of the Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types, across northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.

  • Preliminary data indicates that 111 drones were neutralized.
  • Nine strike drones and missiles impacted 11 locations, with debris from intercepted drones falling at three sites.

The attack remains ongoing, with new groups of Russian drones entering Ukrainian airspace, as warned by the Ukrainian Air Force.

Ukrainian air defense forces reported a significant interception of Russian drones in a recent attack, neutralizing the majority of the aerial threats. Despite the success, the assault continues with new drone incursions detected.
