In the early hours of April 19, Russia launched an extensive aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying 236 strike drones, including models such as Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas. Ukrainian Air Force officials reported that their defense systems successfully intercepted 203 of these drones during the operation.
The Ukrainian defense response involved multiple units, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. According to preliminary assessments, by 8:00 AM, the air defense had neutralized a substantial number of the incoming drones across various regions of the country.
“As of this morning, our air defense has shot down or suppressed 203 enemy drones of various types in the northern, southern, and eastern parts of Ukraine,” the statement from the Ukrainian Air Force indicated.
Despite the significant interceptions, the attack resulted in 32 drones successfully striking 18 locations, with debris reported in eight areas. The situation remains dynamic, as several drones continue to operate within Ukrainian airspace.
